I have both negative and positive experiences with Moutain Manor Treatment Center MMTC of 3800 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore Md ( an "anti-drug" facilty which was formerly in alliance with the now closed and controversial Riverside Hospital of DC). I will just name a few of the bad and good of MMTC.
Unfortunately, I witnessed between 4 and 5 young girls between the ages of 13 and 16 being led away from MMTC by a heavy-set 30 to 40 year old woman. The young girls were All in red high-heels, tight blue jeans and neatly, tucked-in shirts. The heavy-set woman took them to a parked car in the parking lot.
I've witnessed staff sit in a car with students, which is against all school rules.
There is a definite envioronment of acceptable sarcasm and sometimes outright apathy.
Greatfully, in the midst of what may seem like a very bad institution, I've seen positive moments. I've seen the joy and laughter of students encouraged by well-meaning and caring staff. Yes, there are great moments when staff are able to help students feel good about themselves and encourage them to move in a positive direction with their lives.
It's important to mention that this accredited insitution, even with its sebacks, has a lot of good potential!
