This morning I woke up thinking I was scheduled for wisdom tooth extraction at the Institute of Facial Surgery (IFS). I called IFS to confirm since they did not notify me 24 hrs before hand as they said they would do, although I found out they left a message on my land line not my cell as I'd asked them to.
This was only the first of many problems. When I called and asked for their address, I wanted to confirm I couldn't eat or drink for 6 hours prior, and they notified me that I was coming in only for a consult, not a surgery. I was not informed it would only be an evaluation and so I took the entire day off as a sick day expecting to have my wisdom teeth removed. Come to find out, they wanted to charge me $70 dollars for an evaluation and were less than apologetic that they miscommunicated to me there would only be an evaluation and not a surgery.
I was upset, understandably. But I didn't talk down to them or try to make them feel stupid like they tried to make me feel. Their apology was, verbatim: "I'm sorry you didn't understand you were only scheduled for an evaluation." That was it. Not, "I'm sorry that we didn't communicate that to you properly," not "I'm sorry that we didn't inform you that you were only being seen for an evaluation." NOPE...it was more like, I'm sorry you're a moron and didn't know you had to be seen for an evaluation first.
They even rationalized it by saying: "Why would we have scheduled you for a surgery when we don't do surgeries in the afternoon." And I know your inter-company policies how? You didn't even communicate to me property that I was only being seen for an evaluation. I had my X-Rays and referral ready to bring to you like you asked, is it too much of a stretch to assume you can do an evaluation and a surgery in the same day? It's common practice at the clinic I made my appointment for after these jokers pulled this little stunt.
To top it off, this lady talks to the doctor and the doctor says that because of my behavior they wouldn't even see me. A formal complaint to the Minnesota Board of Dentistry will be forthcoming.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CHOOSE ANOTHER ORAL SURGEON, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NEEDING TO BE PUT UNDER DURING THE SURGERY. THESE PEOPLE COULDN'T GET A SIMPLE COMMUNICATION CORRECT, I WILL NOT TRUST THEM WITH ANESTHESIA.
