Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and licensed to practice in several states, including Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia, Dr. Sawaf is proud to have served as an Assistant Director of the General Practice Residency Program at The Naval Medical Center in San Diego. It is this early exposure to technical dental procedures that has made Sawaf a leader in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. This dental specialty focuses on correcting the position and alignment of the jaw and facial bones.
EDUCATION and AFFILIATIONS
Dr. Michael Sawaf attended the Boston University School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1995. Upon graduation, he passed the rigorous written exam, along with a clinical licensing exam, in order to practice at this highest level of dental patient care. Additionally, Dr. Sawaf is required to stay up to date on the latest clinical and scientific advancements in dental medicine for regular recertification.
Michael chose to become a Naval Officer, and from there, he served as an Assistant Director of the general practice residency program at The Naval Medical Center in San Diego. He had a prominent role in teaching other dental professionals in multiple dental specialties, from dental hygiene to orthodontics, along with oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
Sawaf went on to finish his orthodontic residency to earn his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) at Jacksonville University in 2006. He gained his first board certification, The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) in 2007, and has gone on to earn recertifications in 2012 and in 2020. Micheal remains a member of the Boston University Dental Alumni Association today.
