My mother stayed at this nursing home this past summer and it was a wonderful experience! The staff took the time to truly get to know my mom and would always treat her with dignity and respect. The entire staff was wonderful from the nurses to housekeeping. Everybody was always smiling, pleasant, and very helpful! You can tell they have a great team! The therapy was stellar! I couldn't recommend this place more! I would never go anywhere else!
There'll be no stars for the West Bloomfield Nursing & Convalescent Center from me! In fact, if the option were presented, I'd give it two thumbs down and I'm sure my mom would add her thumbs as well! My mom is long dead now. She died 13 years ago of emphysema but the way she was treated at this facility still rankles. Here's what happened: My mom was referred to this facility by Beaumont Hospital for physical therapy after a prolonged hospital stay had rendered her unable to fully move her arms and legs. I should say the rehab specialists don't figure into this review since mom found them to be excellent, but, on a day-to-day basis, the care here was atrocious. Mom told me that when she rang for help, it consistently took ages for anyone to come to her aid. Then, one day, a careless staff member's negligence in transferring mom from her wheelchair to the toilet, caused mom to fall into her wheelchair gashing her delicate, crepe-paper-flesh (the result of her meds) and requiring a trip to the emergency room for stitches. I can't remember now how many but I think it was actually in the double digits. When my mom returned to the West Bloomfield Nursing Home, the staff's failure to properly care for her wound caused the injury to develop an angry infection. Fed up with everything Beaumont, my mom asked to be transferred for treatment to Providence Hospital in Southfield, which she found much more agreeable, and from there she was referred to the Straith Clinic in Southfield (which she loved) for the remainder of her therapy. Seeing as the West Bloomfield Facility was responsible not only for mom's injury but for allowing it to then become infected, I asked administrators, when I went to pick up mom's stuff, if they'd be so kind as to waive her last room and board charges. After all, she hadn't used their facility since she was at Providence for a problem they caused. I couldn't believe it when they insisted mom pay the expensive charges! Because, at the time, I was overwhelmed with caring for mom, and because she raised me to believe litigation is de-classe, I never did pursue legal action. But, in a way, I'm sorry I didn't. I feel confident any fair judge or jury would have seen things my way. As it is, I'll be happy now if this review keeps even one individual from having to go through what my mom did at this despicable facility! And thank God my mom was in her right mind! If they treat lucid elderly patients in this manner, imagine how badly they must treat the feeble-minded!
