The reasons my mother chose this (formerly five-star) retirement community have been gradually disappearing. She liked the ambiance of the dining room in the old mansion. Now there is a new dining room with a more institutional look and feel, and the mansion is only available to rent for private events. She liked not having to worry about grounds maintenance or home repairs but, with the increasingly chronic under-staffing, my eighty-something year old mother has regularly had to shovel snow from her sidewalk and mow her own yard! She hesitates to even put in a repair order because of her sympathy for the overwhelmed staff, and (from experience) she knows it could take weeks or months to have maintenance respond. So needed repairs go untended to. There have been occasions when she was told that repairs could not be done due to budget constraints (in spite of maintenance and repairs being a contractual obligation of the management). She's afraid to complain, lest she be kicked out! In spite of having purchased her home and paying monthly maintenance fees, Corporate management apparently has the power to "evict" residents.
As the apartments in the new building become occupied the staff to resident ratio continues to shrink, and even more staff have left (I assume due to becoming totally overwhelmed).
Though the services are decreasing, the monthly fees have regularly increased. Several residents sent a letter to Corporate headquarters, voicing their concerns, and go NO RESPONSE. I suspect they would hear from Corporate if they withheld their monthly fees...
By outward appearances this retirement community might still give the impression that it rates five stars, but they are not meeting their obligations to their residents. It seems the budget allows for new construction and glossy, hard-sell promotion, but not adequate staff and services for the current residents.

Hi, We put my 88 year old dad in this home for rehab from a 4 week hospital stay from open heart surgery. This was he worst place to take hime, the adds of the home and the workers there told us they would work with him 7 days a week and 3 times a day, he was there for 6 days, the Dr. never saw him at all and said he did twice, rehab only saw him 3 time in 6 days, My mom and my wife and myself was there everyday morning till night, we took care of him, we would ring the bell so he could go to the bath room and it took 15 to 20 minutes for the nurse's or aid to come in and I would look out the door and they all stood at nurse's station bull crapping. we took him out and brought him home to get proper care. I would not take a cat there or anything else.
