My husband is 82 yr old and deaf. He went to the hospital with a heart attac k. It was found that he had 3 arteries blocked at 90% each.Because of his condition a triple by-pass was not feaseable.After his angioplasty where 3 stents were inserted, he was put on a very strict diet, not only for his heart, but on a rectricted potassium one for his kidneys.
Friday afternoon he was admitted to Miller Merry Manor in Portage, IN. At lunch time today, (Sunday) my husband was sitting a the table waiting to be served when I came in. Every one had finished eating and he was still waiting. I asked a server the reason why. I was told they asked him he he already had eaten. He being deaf didn't comprehend, but he always asnwers "yes" to any questions. They finally brought him his lunch which consisted of : Fry chicken with mashed portato. He can't have any of these. When I mentionned it I was told that they don't have any special diets, and it the patient responsabilty to make the right choice. Being a newcomer, he didn't even get a menu so he could make a choice! He was put there so he would get helped to be in better health, not to endangered it by giving a diet not suited to his condition. The staff is made of young personnel who to my opinion, are not trained to care for older people who depend on them for their needs.

Every time they left the room, the staff would immediately begin complaining about how much they disliked working there. It made me nervous, and I didn't go back. They didn't tell me anything about my treatment options. I left feeling very confused and frustrated. I did not feel safe at all in their care. I definitely had doubts about their qualifications. I couldn't WAIT to get out of that place. Do NOT send your family there, please, for the love of God!
