Due to a situation outside of our control I recently had my mother in Meadow Brook Manor of Hartford. This facility was a terrible experience and my mother was only in the facility a short period of time. The nursing staff refused her adequate fluids and myself as well as other family members would have to visit multiple times a day to ensure she would not dehydrate. Our family would have to get her in and out of bed ourselves if she wanted due to the nurses ignoring the nurse light. When we would approach the nursing desk the nurses would be spinning in circles in their swivel chairs. Our family would actually have to say “excuse me” to get their attention because the staff would not provide us with the code for the elevator. I always felt like I was inconveniencing them upon my departure.
Once I was downstairs the care did not appear to be much better. I would see staff sitting in the halls with their cellphones out laughing and caring on, and while I was there I overheard more than one inappropriate conversation between staff members.
The food was over seasoned and my mother stated it was barely edible. If I would attempt to ask for anything during dinner I would be ignored by staff for at least an hour because apparently the facility does not have enough time or staff to provide care for all of the patients at the same time. When I would finally get the attention of a staff member and ask how my mother was doing I would receive the run around and no one could answer me because that was private information. I am her power of attorney therefore, I have access to all of her records.
The facility was extremely unkempt and smelled horrible. It wasn’t uncommon to see trails of urine in the hallway underneath other patients. I would hear other patients get yelled at and forced back into their rooms. All day and all night patients and staff would scream at one another and cuss words were always involved.
I would not recommend this facility and I would seek out other options if you are forced to put an aging adult in this facility.
