My family member has been in the full-care facility at Croasdaile for two years. It has been a very bad experience. They do not attend to the residents very well -- it's not quite neglect, but it borders on it. If they can't go to the bathroom by themselves, they are often wet or dirty for a long time. That's because the aides don't check on them. If they can't feed themselves, they often lose a lot of weight. There are just not enough aides to feed every resident who can't feed himself or herself. As a result, they feed them a few bites and then move on to other residents.

There is also no interaction with the residents. I am there visiting my family member often, at least a weekend a month. I try to talk with the other residents while I'm there because they never have any direct conversation with anyone. It's very sad. I don't see many other family members visiting either, which upsets me. Even though it costs a lot, you can't assume you are getting good care. Lots of money doesn't automatically equal good care. I have two other relatives in other facilities, although not in North Carolina, and those facilities are wonderful. I would love to move from Durham but you have to start in independent living in those facilities and work your way to full care, and my family member is not capable of being in independent living.
