My husband was referred to ER for an acute manic episode evaluation. Our physician called ahead. The receptionist was nervous about him and had a security officer hovering around the triage room. When my husband asked where a restroom was the officer attempted to escort him to the restroom rather than directing him and grabbed hold of his arm my husband held up his cane to ward him off the officer immediately reached for his taser and called two other officers. I had already taken his cane away from him. Two officers tased him anyway. my husband is 58, has balance problems and was being held by 3 officers 2x his size however they the dropped him on his face on the way to lock up causing a black eye and cut brow. They put him in 3 point restraint and denied me access. He did not receive any medications for 35 hours, was not admitted to the ward until the next afternoon and did not see a psych until the following evening. He had 2 taser burns on his back, his biceps were bruised up, and he has a black eye. He was also denied access to an attorney. Our doctor was appalled at the lack of care when they released him 2 days later.
