I was in the adolescent ward when I was admitted; after three days they put me on anti-depressants, which made me feel crazy (I was admitted for an eating disorder, NOT depression).
In fact, after being there for three weeks (not counting outpatient/partial hospitalization), I STILL had not shown any significant weight gain or improvement--I just wanted to get out of there. Why? The staff was rude and regularly told the adolescent patients how they "hated their jobs." I was humiliated when male employees, far older than I was at the time (15) were sent for "shower checks." I saw a nine year old girl tackled and sedated for "running."
I did not even recover until nearly four years after I left that terrible establishment, ditched the ridiculously expensive "treatment team" they hooked me up with, and went cold-turkey off the medication I DID NOT NEED. Only then did I show significant improvement. I still go online occasionally to read reviews of patients who have been there recently--I encourage you to read these reviews; although they are few, they reveal how ridiculous the practices of this establishment are, especially in the adolescent ward, which I would argue houses the most delicate patients--children.
