Was referred to Susquehanna Oral Surgery by my primary dentist for extraction of four wisdom teeth and a broken molar. As an adult patient they knew I would be a tough case. The consultation went well, and the surgery was scheduled for two weeks later. At the time of the consultation, I was given a not-to-exceed estimate based on a 2-hour surgery. Being a tough case, they wanted to block two hours and was told anesthesia would be billed by the minute used, and it would be less. The day of the surgery I arrived at the center when instructed and went through the pre-surgery screening. Before proceeding I was told I must be in advance. Although I don’t feel it was fair to pay off an NTE estimate I agreed. I intended to pay for all charges with an HSA debit card anyway. My HSA debit card and then my main checking debit both declined for some reason although there was adequate money in both accounts! I communicated I could pay by check and was told they would only accept a certified check from a bank. This office is almost an hour from my residence. Our entire dialogue was conducted at the main front desk with other patients around. I have never felt so embarrassed in my adult life and feel the staff handled the situation very unprofessional. They were also very rude. I am not even sure if charging very services upfront without knowing the actual price is legal for one, but the way they made me feel regarding payment was completely inappropriate and uncalled for. Beware using this firm.
