I just had my first appointment today from switching dentists. The office was very nice, until I met my hygienist. She was very thorough which I appreciated at first and she double checked my information which as a nursing student I can appreciate also. But they ask that you list all medications including oral contraceptives which i use and my hygienist had made some sort of snarky comment about birth control and tapped me on the shoulder which I thought was rude. They do X-Rays every year which annoyed me because although I understand why it's just not necessary and coming from a dentist that did them only two years and not to mention the lack of dental insurance I preferred that they be done only twice a year for me personally, but I did let her do a panoramic x-ray. She really had a lack of technological skills because she had a hard time getting it to work not to mention my hair got stuck while the machine was moving!! Then she didn't even get a picture the first time so we had to do it twice! The cleaning was fine, very thorough which was a change from my other dentist, however, when the dentist came in him and the dental hygienist ganged up on me about getting my wisdom teeth pulled (which are not bothering me by the way) and made me feel as though I had to do it. Then they ganged up on me about returning to my orthodontist to get new retainers to prevent my teeth from shifting more which I can understand but the manner they said it just turned me off and frankly angered me as soon as I left! They gave me a wisdom tooth referral (that I won't be using anytime soon) and listed my reason for oral surgery was pain for wisdom teeth which is false! The rapport I got with the hygienist and dentist so far was EXTREMELY negative. This experience honestly won't stop me from returning there but I will be requesting a new dentist and hygienist there. Just be careful that they aren't just trying to get your money. They also need to watch what they say because the hygienist made a comment about "fancy schmancy" words that were medical terms when I knew every single one being a nursing student.
