I am a 69 year old American Indian physician whose DNA is 37% Native. In 1985, I was strangled for in excess of four minutes with lethal intent by police in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and subsequently developed severe Delayed Post-Anoxic Encephalopathy with diffuse slowing of my EEG and residual brain damage. My situation was complicated by my psychotic older brother, an attorney, who had always denied his Native roots and passed for 100% white.
I needed a psychiatrist with expertise in the American Indian. Dr. Foulks was recommended to me by Dr. Arthur Kleinman of Harvard
University. At the time, Dr. Foulks worked at the University of
Pennsylvania, near my home in New Jersey.
Dr. Foulks did my case pro bono and did an excellent job despite
lacking all the diagnostic information now at our disposal. I am now
fully recovered and again working with my people as a physician and
and a shaman. I couldn't have done it without Ed Foulks.
Louisiana is lucky to have such a great doctor.
