I have been to him for different reasons and I can say he helped me! I believe he knows what he is doing and he says things to see where one is in their life and also to get reactions and responses. I will always find my way back to the doctor as he is amazing and can really pick you up out of a bad time in your life😇

Two words for my one and only visit to Dr. Bhupendra Gupta are: disturbing and unsettling. For reasons extending beyond my own health concerns, I strongly believe this man should not be practicing psychiatry.
I went to Gupta because my previous psychiatrist was unavailable and I was still experiencing adverse side effects from Zoloft even after one month. When I entered the room he demanded to hold hands with me and pray. He then played a 10-minute video on brain scans, citing the speaker as Robin Williams’s former therapist and one of his former classmates. He asked me a few questions about my history, and suggested I lose 100 pounds (which would put me at a weight I haven't been since I was a 10-year old child). He told me I should not be taking an SSRI, as these do not help with anxiety and depression and I should stop taking the Zoloft immediately. He asked me to imagine that he was a genie and to state what my three wishes would be. I said, “I want peace of mind,” after which he told me I was selfish because I used the words “I” and “want” (which he had instructed me to do). He told me that I was beautiful, smart, and “talented”—which is also puzzling and inappropriate considering he had not gathered any knowledge about my interests or skills and was primarily fixated on my weight, age, and height.
There are so many other examples of odd behavior, declarations, and insinuations coming from Dr. Gupta that I wish I had turned on my phone to record our session, but the surreal nature of the situation left me dazed. At one point he shut his eyes and, as if divining information, disclosed that my “husband is a good man, and he has good insurance.” (We had not discussed my marriage, but I was wearing my wedding ring.) The absurdity of his unprofessional demeanor brought vague suspicions of Candid Camera to mind.
Throughout it all, I would try to ask questions about my medication and how to manage it but he would not answer and begin another tangent. After about 30 minutes, he asked me why I looked overwhelmed, and I said, “Because you are not listening to me, and you just keep talking about things unrelated to my visit.” He stared at me incredulously, claiming that we are not connecting so he cannot help me, and dismissively stated that he would refer me to someone else.
Coming from a background in social work and the care of adolescents with traumatic childhoods, I was especially alarmed to learn that Dr. Gupta treats adolescents and populations with psychiatric conditions much more severe than mine. Yet I was not surprised to see a multitude of online reviews for Dr. Gupta echoing my concerns; I only wish I had checked his reviews BEFORE visiting his office. These testimonials serve to corroborate my observations and I heartily caution assigning any validity to the reviews which give him 5 stars or which “recommend him immensely.”
I returned to my regular psychiatrist and I’m doing fine. My real concern is for patients who are not as able to defend themselves or make distinctions regarding this man’s quackery. Honestly it would surprise me if his practice does not come under investigation based on these wide and varied imprecations. My hope is that at-risk, highly vulnerable people do not encounter Dr. Gupta’s unorthodox and unacceptable methods.
