Dr. Katz is the first genuinely rude physician I've encountered. He is very abrupt and argumentative, and has the worst bedside manner. I first saw him about 6 years ago, when he removed a sizable lipoma from my triceps, and again about a year and a half ago for a smaller one in my left forearm. When I returned with others in my arm and leg recently, he became agitated and explained to me that my body would continue to make these benign tumors, and that I should just leave them in. I told him I understood the likelihood, but explained that the actual knowledge of whether they were malignant or benign was only determined through biopsy. Then he proceeded to insult my intelligence, using comments like "can't you get it through your head", and implying that if I didn't agree with him, I had a mental problem. He removed the two from my arm and told me to come back in at least 6 weeks if I really wanted the ones in my leg removed. I returned in 2 months, and was greeted with additional rudeness. First from his reptilian assistant, who asked me if anything had changed since my last visit. When I told her I was going to have open heart surgery in 3 months, she didn't even blink, she just repeated her question to the effect of "so, no new medications, though?". Then she took my blood pressure and told me it was high, like it was an accusation and I had done something wrong. I said I just had it checked at the cardiologist the day before and it was 120/68. She said sarcastically, "it must be me", then walked out. Next the doctor came in, told me "I'm not your guy", then gave me an updated condescending speech, insinuating that having surgeons cut me to remove lipomas was either some kind of fetish, or I just lacked the mental capacity to understand his medical opinion. I told him I was fine with him refusing to treat me, and hoped that he understood the statistical probability wherein by refusing to excise tumors from future patients, eventually one of them will be malignant. He told me "I keep my own counsel", took one final jab at my intelligence, and showed me the door. I will never go back to Surgical Associates of Milford again for any reason. And to top it off, they insisted on billing me for the visit. A $45 copay, and my insurance will likely pay hundreds of dollars for nothing but 5 minutes of pure condescension. I'm going to contact Aetna about him, though. They have a right to know exactly what they're paying for.
