I have had chronic tonsillitis since fall or winter of 2012. It is now fall of 2018. I don't go to the dr everytime for it, because in the beginning we weren't sure what it was and thought it was something that would just pass. It got so bad that I began to go to the Dr much more often. They couldn't exactly figure out what was causing it, and I have had so much bloodwork done with no answers. Eventually I had to medically withdraw from school, with documentation from my Drs at Skylands on rt 15. I have since lost jobs from missing so much work and never finished my degree. I got better for about 2 yrs after just working on my overall health, but then was involved in a severe, violent sexual assault while being held against my will and heavily drugged. Since this, my health has gone downhill again. This happened 1 yr ago this month, and in the last year I have had tonsillitis probably 5 or 6x, but only went to the Dr twice, sometimes they will refill my prescriptions without making me come in because they know that this frequently happens to me. About 2 weeks ago, one of my Drs on rt 15 referred me to Dr. Galeos. Today I went to see him, the first time I have been to an ENT Dr. I told him that I could not have him scope my throat without being put under or on something to relax me, but that I would do whatever else I needed to do. He threw down my paperwork and basically asked me to just leave, stating he can do nothing for me if I am not willing to work with him. He then reminded me "he didnt have to do this," aka he can afford to not operate on me, he doesn't need my business. I told him that I would do the sleep study he wants me to do first for the sleep apnea and whatever else he needed from me, except a swab or scope while fully awake. I started crying because he was so rude and it was so overwhelming, having someone paint me as this major problem patient that was beyond help. He later admitted after I asked that he does not even have to do a swab or scope to do the surgery. He made me feel like hell for absolutely no reason. Then he looked at my tonsils and said they're fine. I said yeah, because I've been on antibiotics for 10 days. And he is telling me it doesn't matter, and I'm telling him it does matter that they become thrice this size and are unbearable for the majority of my year. Before I left I said "well sorry I'm the worst," and he said "well at least you know what you are." About 10 mins after I left he had his receptionist call me to tell me that I'm not a candidate for the surgery because there has to be documentation of tonsillitis 6 times in one year. I have already had it 5 or 6x this year but not with proper documentation. They stated this protocol is all to ensure that the insurance would pay for the surgery. I told them that I would literally pay out of pocket for it and they pretty much told me to find another surgeon. I am in absolute shock and have been crying in my car for 30 minutes. If I could give less than 1 star, I absolutely would. If I could get my $50 specialist copay back, I would.
