Diablo Valley Child Neurology, Inc. (DVCN) is a new corporation established by Dr. Candida Brown in 2011, who has practiced as a physician in the field of child neurology since 1992. DVCN is devoted to the highest quality of care to children with neurological concerns, delivered with great compassion and understanding of the issues that affect not only the patient, but his or her family as well. DVCNs role will be that of a consultant, working closely with the referring provider. Referrals may come from a variety of sources, including pediatricians, family practitioners, developmental and behavioral pediatricians, school personnel, psychologists, psychologists and therapists from the community. The philosophy of DVCN is to enhance the quality of life for all children, regardless of their underlying neurological diagnoses. In addition to extensive education with the family, the art of medicine becomes very important through providing emotional support and compassionate care to families who struggle through complicated neurological issues or grieve the loss of the expectation of a "typically developing" child. The journey can still be a joyful and beautiful one, but the path will become different. Dr. Brown and her staff have extensive experience in helping parents through the emotional as well as medical challenges.

Dr. Brown has been an amazing resource! I feel so fortunate to have discovered her, and I would highly recommend her to any parent whose child may need a neurological screening or evaluation.

I have had my son on a waiting list to be seen at Children's Hospital in Oakland for over 8 months now, and we have yet to be seen (or even get an appointment. We are still on a waiting list). Ruth, Dr. Brown's office manager, was able to have my son seen by Dr. Brown in less than a week!

Dr. Brown spent over 2 hours with us on the first visit discussing my 3 year old son's medical history and behaviors. She was kind, patient, and reassuring. She was also extremely thorough and wrote a 5 page report.

Before I saw Dr. Brown, I was a distraught parent who knew my son's behavior was not normal. After I met with Dr. Brown, I was so relieved. She provided a diagnosis consistent with his background. She helped me develop an action plan including getting my son occupational therapy and following up with my local school district for preschool services. I was able to call and work with my insurance to get some of his services at least partially covered. Dr. Brown also arranged follow-up visits.

Quite simply, Dr. Brown is incredible and exactly everything I would want and hope for in doctor who works with children!

It is obvious that their office is cleaned regularly. It was fantastic. They go out of their way to make everyone feel equally respected and cared for. I've seen client favoritism at some of the other places I've been, and I really appreciate the extra effort they make to avoid that here. I really admire them for being more than willing to ask for help from other professionals in the field when they don't have an answer to my question. They aren't even slightly arrogant, and I'm confident they always have my best interest at heart.
