Dr. Berman has been my allergist and asthma physician for over twenty years. He's helped me every time I've needed it and brought my severe-persistent asthma back under control many times when it became much more severe. At one point in 2007/2008 it had dropped from about 80 percent of normal (with all the medicines we were using to help control it all the way down to about 48 percent of normal. We tried all kinds of different medicines to get it back under control, but nothing worked. He told me then that there was a new medicine named Xolair that might help me. He said we should give it a try. It's a biologic medicine that is genetically engineered and very expensive at about six to seven thousand dollars per month, but my insurance covered it. That medicine, Xolair, gradually increased my breathing all the way back up to 85 to 88 percent of normal over the next year and a half. With his support, I've been on it with bi-weekly injections for the past 11 years. At one time, my wife and I were forced to change my health insurance to her employer's plan. It was not going to cover my life-saving medicine, Xolair. Dr. Berman and his medical staff made all the medical appeals for me all the way to a final appeal of the health plan's decision. Thanks to he and his staff's work and support, we won that appeal. That should let all the people who read this know what kind of doctor he is. He is very honest and sometimes can come across as cold, but I've learned that underneath that is an extremely caring, devoted, intelligent, and knowledgeable physician who really knows his stuff about asthma. He helped me to have a life again when I thought I was going to die from my very severe asthma back in early 2008. I know he and the others doctors at Allergy and Asthma Specialists have several offices located around the Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota area. I recommend them highly to anyone having severe allergies and asthma like medical conditions.
