Stephanie Ezust earned my trust and I deeply appreciate her contributions to my life. Stephanie has been my psychotherapist for more than 7 years in both individual psychotherapy and as a member of a therapy group. She uses dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness meditation and other techniques from her training and experience in our work together. Stephanie also uses direct speaking, with compassion and encouragement and without judgement, and I can do more of the same with others as a result. She has helped me to acknowledge and accept my feelings and fears, recognize joy and boundaries, and deal with anxiety and conflict resolution among other issues. Sweet Bodhi the therapy dog, is there when I need him too. Finally, Stephanie is active in professional associations of her peers and shows that she stays aware of developments in the practice of her profession.

If you are looking for a trauma therapist, please ask yourself a few questions first.

When is it okay for a therapist to yell at a client?
When is it okay to slam doors, stomp up stairs, and throw things because you're angry at a client?
When is it okay for a therapist to use profanity directed at a client?
When is it okay for a therapist to tell a client that she makes her have sadistic thoughts?
When is it okay for a therapist to tell a client she wants to slap her?
When is okay for a therapist to threaten a client?
When is okay to accuse a client of something that they didn't do?
When is it ever okay that you're spending your money to work out your relationship with your therapist instead of being able to work on what brought you to therapy in the first place?

These are just a few of the things that happened during my experience with Stephanie...

In the end, she accused me of stealing her digital CLOCK and something else equally as stupid (I can't even remember what it was, but for heaven's sake, I worked at the BANK and have never stolen anything in my LIFE). She left me defenseless because I had a key to her office (which she supplied). By this time I had been seeing her about 8 months and was the sickest I had ever been because of her so-called "treatment" methods, which consisted of little more than threatening never to speak to me if I didn't do exactly what she said. No matter how much I cried that I did not take anything from her office, she refused to believe me. I attempted suicde that day and again 2 weeks later in her office. I was hospitalized 5 times in 8 months. Then she dumped me as a client (which I am now soooo grateful for) via a letter in the mail, along with sending me a 1,000 dollar bill claiming I back-owed her for phone calls and emergnecy sessions throughout the 8 months I had seen her.

I regret not filing a complaint against her, but I didn't think anyone would believe me. Even in my sickest moments of being with her, many times I wanted to charge her! I would literally feel physically sick before my appointments with her because I never knew what kind of mood she was going to be in. She was VERY unpredictable. My current therapist tried to contact Stephanie. It took her nearly two months to call my therapist back and then she claimed she never got the fax that was sent TWICE to release my information. To this date, Stephanie has never sent my records and never called at the specified time that she and my therapist had agreed they would talk.

For what it's worth, I went to Stephanie because of childhood abuse issues and have a dissociative disorder/PTSD. Before seeing her, I had never ever been hospitalized. I have been married for 15 years and have a career. While I was seeing her, I had to QUIT MY JOB because I became so nonfunctioning. She also misdiagnosed me by a landslide.

So if you read this and are considering going to her, this is what my experience was like. This is an investment about your life; it almost cost me my life. Obviously you have to make up your own mind and come to your own conclusions and this is MY personal experience and story, so I'm not speaking for anyone else or saying it might happen to you. It has been almost 2 years since my experience. She successfully caused me to be retraumatized by her constant threats and angry behavior. I spent months of therapy and thousands of dollars undoing what she did to me.

In closing, I have mixed emotions about what happened to me with her. I am still very angry that she got away with it, but I also feel the best revenge is getting well. I have gone back to school and am well on my road to recovery now. I have not had a single hospitalization since the last time I saw her. Something I am doubtful I could have done if I had continued with Stephanie.
