Liposuction
Mary Podnos, MD
Getting rid of fat deposits on your body can be very difficult. Diet and exercise won’t always work.
People spend hours in the gym trying to target train areas that just won’t budge. And despite being in
good health, some people still struggle with localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to genetics rather than a lack of good eating or exercise habits.
This cycle of frustration not only affects people’s bodies. It also hurts their self-image and self-esteem. In cases like these liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, can be most helpful. Liposuction reshapes the body by removing stubborn fat deposits, reshaping particular areas. It improves the look of the body ultimately enhances self-image. Men and women can use liposuction to target problem areas or reduce breast size. Liposuction leaves less scarring than other kinds of plastic surgery.
Mary Podnos, MD will begin the procedure by local or IV sedation. The type of sedation will be determined by the type and amount of procedures being done at the same time. Procedures can be done back to back or several body parts can be treated during the same day. The surgeon will make a few small incisions near the target area. A small, tube-like instrument is then inserted through the incisions. When the tube reaches the fat deposits, it breaks them up and vacuums up the fat. When the desired amount of fat has been broken down, the tube is removed and incisions are sutured.
The biggest benefit to this surgery is that after the procedure, patients are more confident and satisfied
with the look of their body. They have more self-confidence and feel better about wearing a bathing suit or tighter fitting clothes. It also improves the way they interact with people and view themselves. These results, that people can both see and feel is why liposuction remains so popular.
There are many kinds of liposuction and each type exhibits their individual benefits and risks. Each type is specialized for a particular type of desired result. It is essential that you carefully prepare for liposuction and allow yourself sufficient recovery time.
