Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation - What to Expect Before and After

Breast augmentation is commonly done using silicone gel and saline implants that are FDA approved. However, there are several women who wish to enhance their breasts naturally without the help of saline or silicone implants. Fat transfer breast augmentation is the new and natural solution they may want to consider.  It has more than one advantage – while enlarging the breasts, the procedure also contours the body area from where fat is harvested.

Process of Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

While performing this procedure, liposuction technology is used along with autologous fat injections for naturally enhancing the breast tissue. Once extraction of extra fat is done from the buttocks, thighs, abdomen, hips or thighs of the patient through liposuction, a filtering and purification process is done on the fat cells to prepare them for re-insertion. Then, the purified fat cells are injected into the breast tissue for the development of natural breasts.  The time taken to get the procedure done including fat harvesting and liposuction is approximately 4-5 hours. After the treatment, patients are usually advised to wear a support bra initially to keep the transferred fat in place. The results of fat transfer breast augmentation are more natural as compared to that obtained via the traditional breast augmentation procedure. Various safety concerns that are associated with standard implants are eliminated with this natural breast augmentation method. However, when it comes to the candidacy and result of natural breast augmentation, various factors have to be to be taken into consideration in consultation with the surgeon.

What benefits can be expected from the procedure?

• Natural texture and feel
• Doesn’t interfere with mammogram tests
• Doesn’t interfere with breastfeeding
• No nerve damage or tissue trauma
• No allergic reactions or implant rejection
• Can be used with existing breast implants

Many precautions should be taken for ensuring maximum survival of the fat tissue. These include careful refinement of the harvested tissue, and avoiding trauma at the harvest site.

Results and Recovery

Once the procedure of fat transfer breast augmentation is completed, the time taken for initial recovery will be around 1-3 days. Over the next few weeks, any soreness or swelling present will slowly disappear. The complete process of healing can take a few weeks to a few months. You will be evaluated by the surgeon during the process of healing. Complete results would be seen approximately after six months. To enjoy a smooth and speedy recovery, follow all the instructions provided by the plastic surgeon.
