Listen Up, MEN- Take TIME to Have Sex...

Ahh... it is the topic that many men avoid. But it is more prevalent that one might think. Some research says that about 1 in 5 men actually experience low libido, and want LESS sexual experiences.
So let's talk about a few day to day activities or issues that may cause low libido for men:

- Not enough time...it is easy to put your sex life lower on the priority list when your daily duties take over. The problem is, if a person doesn't make time for intimacy, then the lack of sex will lead to a lower sex drive over time.

- Low self worth...when a man (or woman for that matter) has a negative image of himself, he may become fearful in the bedroom, causing lack of sexual desire.

- Not enough sleep... getting enough sleep allows a person to feel focused, aware, active- and ultimately, a healthier libido. People who get too tired care more about catching up on their rest than having sex. Plus the lack of sleep can cause increased levels of cortisol, leading to low libido.

- Being depressed... this mood disorder can actually change the body's chemistry in a way that causes many health issues, including a low sex drive. (Plus certain medications used to treat depression may cause low libido as a side effect).

- Too much stress... stressful people end up releasing adrenaline and cortisol. Chronic stress leads to changing hormones, and results in low libido. Stress is also a distraction, thus, taking one's mind off sexual yearnings.

- Hormone imbalances... a man's libido is related to testosterone levels. Low testosterone is a hormone imbalance. Liver problems could also result in this, since the liver breaks down estrogen. When estrogen levels go up, libido goes down.

-Using drugs and alcohol... too much alcohol can literally cause exhaustion, which prohibits one from becoming stimulated and able to have sex. Certain drugs can suppress the pituitary gland, causing testosterone levels to be disturbed.

- Presence of health problems... problems in the body like cancer, diabetes, or other systematic diseases can change the levels of testosterone and sperm counts. The human body is an amazing creation, and works toward healing itself. Since it is putting all its effort into healing, other functions like sperm production goes out the window.

So take time from each day to breathe, relax, and get aroused. Schedule your days so that things aren't so hectic. This will allow time for sex, proper rest, and also leads to stress reduction, more balanced hormones, and a healthier overall body!
