While we're experiencing a La Nina year of so much cold and wet weather, it's good to keep the following in mind. Mold can occur at your workplace, home and your car, from so much moisture. Mold is can go unnoticed until you experience symptoms. Your symptoms can be quite varied from: chronic upper respiratory infections to flu-like symptoms of aching shoulders, upper arms and upper back, to sore, itchy and swollen eyes, and itchy nose. Try not to ignore the symptoms. Instead explore your car, your home and office. Do you work near the bathroom, and have there been overflows recently? Have the heavy rains and snows been left on your car enough to enter under the hood, and water may be resting around the heater core, molding and flowing in with the outside air mixing with heat and later a/c? Check your home and apartment plumbing regularly for leaks with plumbing and evidence of mold, and clean/caulk/seal all. Be sure to clean away the mold and remove damp wall board right away. Even though a leak has been repaired, unless you remove the damp wallboard the moisture has a life of it's own and grows mold long before you notice it (which you may not at all), but you will experience symptoms. Exercise caution when working with removing moldy board, or cleaning mold. Wear a mask or respirator to protect your lungs. Remember your health is your best asset, and maintaining good health practices will extend your life! Peace. Catherine
