Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol)
Cancer Prevention: Multiple large, randomized studies over decades have failed to prove an association between vitamin E supplementation and cancer prevention.
Heart Disease and Stroke: Nearly all of the large, randomized studies of vitamin E have concluded that vitamin E does not reduce heart disease or stroke risk.
Alzheimer's Disease: Studies found no improvement after vitamin E therapy.
Infection: Several studies have failed to support the theory that vitamin E reduces the risk of infection.
Risk of Death and Vitamin E: Analyzing studies of death from all causes reveals an increased, dose related, death rate after vitamin E supplementation.
Vitamin E Recommendation: High dose Vitamin E has not been shown to prevent cancer, reduce progression of Alzheimer's disease or reduce heart disease, and increases overall death rates. It is therefore not recommended as a supplement.
