What ever happen to caring people?

I really hate that my first blog has to be such a sad and upsetting one but I am very upset with how uncaring some people have become! My daughters and I found some cats and kittens in an empty house next to ours yesterday. When the people moved out they left their animals behind. My children seen the cats in the window and we immediately checked to see if we would be able to get them out. Thank god a window was left open a crack and we were able to get the cats out. Three cats and eleven kittens were rescued in all. It was already getting late so there was only one option, take the cats home for the night, gather info so we could get up early and start finding a no kill shelter to take them. All good intentions!

Now the fun begins. I begin to look the animals over and realize that one of the kittens does not look good. No joke within 15 min the cats temp dropped, she was shaking could not stand and she began to have a hard time breathing and as I was holding her in a warm towel trying to help she took her last breath. I called animal control (big mistake) I know that there is a large number of unwanted animals but to be told right off the bat that they could come and pick them up but they would have to be put to sleep because they just didn't have the room. And it was not told to me in a very nice way. Actually the person seemed like they didn't want to be bothered at all!! A few minutes later same symptoms and we lost another kitten. My caring children begged me to keep them until morning because they knew that someone would help. There has to be a No Kill shelter mommy that will help. Well not so much. And we called everyone on the list. They are just over loaded. Now off to work. I get a call from my oldest telling me that more kittens were sick. By time i came home we lost one more. Then another. And one very sick. I have crying children saying we must do something, mommy lets call a vet tell them what happen! They will save them because that is why they became vets mommy to save animals. Good idea right. It was the most horrible experience in my life. I found a place 30 min away and they told me to bring them in. Well I guess if you don't have a ton of money then your just out of luck. They were kind enough to put the very sick one to sleep. And I was told that I could sign a paper saying that i found them, No charge. Then I was told that the vet looked at the kittens and I can leave them but they would have to send them to the place that told me they would be put down. They were extremely rude. I asked them if they knew what was wrong with them as I have a cat and dog of my own and we were a bit concerned and I was told that they could not tell me that unless i was willing to pay the vet bill. The Dr would not even come out and talk to me and my children. They gave the rest of the kittens back one of them starting already to show the same symptoms and when my oldest daughter said "I thought you would at least try and help them, they are suffering." We were given dirty looks told to take them to the animal shelter in the morning. (The one that said they would basically kill them) Then I mentioned how one of the kittens temps was dropping and she was not strong enough to even stand up." I am really afraid that she will die before the night is out. Can you please help me I have done everything in my power to try and save these cats and drove 30 miles because you told me to bring them." Well I was cut short told there was nothing they could do just take them home and if there are any of the kittens still alive in the morning to take them to the shelter. At that my daughter who was there to witness it all says "thank you so much I guess we will just have to go home and watch the rest of them suffer and hope that we have some alive when we get up" At that she was told " Yeah I guess that is all you can do." And by the way, as upset and angry as my daughter was she was still more polite than they were. Oh and I did get to see the Dr. She came out of an examining room seen us, turned her head and walked into another room. She refused to even talk to us for a second. I understand that they have to make money. I get that! But to tell us that there is nothing they can do. REALLY!!! Is it that much to ask to look at them and see if there is something they can do. If I had the money I would have paid them. But now I have kittens who may have had a chance but most likely wont make it because the Dr didn't see any money in it for them and left a wonderful impression on my children. Again I do apologize for the long story, and I didn't even give all the details on things that were said. But I am sure you get the point. What a wonderful example my children had to witness tonight. So with all my efforts wasted I drove home with 6 remaining kittens still sick. And 2 crying children. My youngest 8 and all she could say is" I thought that they were suppose to help and save sick animals. I wish we were rich mommy then the Dr would have to save them because we could pay them the money!!" So my children learned a wonderful thing tonight. If you have money you survive if you don't you die!! What ever happen to caring people?

I am a single mom with two beautiful girls. I am a restaurant manager. And I enjoy my job. I love to work. And in my free time I spend it with my girls. We often take the dog to the park for long walks. I am not looking to get involved in another relationship as right now I just want to spend as much time with my child...
