Bioidentical or not, HRT is a problem

The application of so-called "Bioidentical" hormones has become more common as people turn away from synthetic hormones offered by conventional HRT. The problem is that a feedback loop in the body - the HPA axis, typically responds to the insertion of hormones by causing the body's own production of hromones to be reduced. In essence, the body is being reprogrammed to produce less of a given hormone than it had previously. When an individual inevitably ends their use of hormone therapy, the levels are likely to be lower and the need is likely even greater than it was before.

When treating individuals with hormonal disorders (male or female), the method we use at A Path to Wellness is to train the body to produce its own hormones at more ideal levels. This is accomplished using naturopathic (Western) and asian (Eastern) herbal medicine, as well as acupuncture and other techniques. This is an approach that works with the body as it is and nudges it to move toward optimal hormone levels without the potential side-effects of hormone replacement therapy.
