Boost Your Fat Loss by College Station Chiropractor Dr. David Bailey

How Your Body Uses Fat

You want to lose weight.  You want to get rid of the excess fat. You've tried a world of diet and exercise plans.  And in the long run, despite all the time, energy, and money, success eludes you. Understanding the role of fat in weight loss can help your frustration.

Your body actually needs fat, and if you don't get enough fat in your diet, your body can make it from carbs or proteins. That's something most diet gurus forget - that your body can convert fats, carbs, and proteins to each other as the body sees fit.

That explains why low fat diets can actually raise yoiur triglycerides.  http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/78/4/873S.

Structural Fat

This is the fat that protects your internal organs, and your body's metabolism really protects this fat against loss during any weight loss program.

Essential Fat
This is the fat your body uses for energy on a moment to moment basis.  This is the fat that burns away first during any fat loss diet.

Nonessential Fat
This is the fat you want to lose. Belly fat. Butt fat.  Thigh fat.  Bad fat.

The problem is that your brain controls how much access your metabolism has to this stored fat, and basically locks it away. That is the reason it is so hard to lose.

You have to change how your brain reacts to fat for long term weight loss.

There several strategies to do that.

My core belief is that your body can heal itself, any allow you to get to a healthy weight again-given the right circumstances. Finding those right circumstances is an individual journey, but here are 5 steps to take.

1. Balance your hormones: Cortisol, insulin, and thyroid are the key hormones in weight loss. These hormones control your energy, immune system, and even your ability to think clearly. These three hormones interact with each other in complex ways, and a problem with one can lead to a problem with the others.
Intervention: You may be surprised that the most effective and powerful method to create hormone balance is to eat frequent, small meals. Grazing helps restore hormone balance.

2. Fight inflammation: Inflammation can be a big problem in weight loss.
Intervention: Stop eating the two most common foods that cause inflammation: simple carbs (including all forms of sugar) and polyunsaturated oils, like corn oil and other oils made from grains.

3. Restore proper digestion: Hormone imbalance or inflammation can wreck your digestion. IBS is a common problem in weight loss issues. Poor digestion means poor abs
