7 Foods That Burn Fat

Fish or fish oil
Fish oil is truly the superfood for brain power and disease prevention but it also helps in increasing fat loss in some people. One study from the University of Missouri showed that taking fish oil before every meal significantly increased fat burning during exercise. Fish oil will help up-regulate the mitochondria and increase oxidation of fats within fat cells. Most people are deficient in omega 3 so be sure to take some fish oil, typically 4-6 capsules/day.

Green tea
Not only has green tea been shown to help in the prevention of cancer and heart disease but many studies also show that it helps in losing bodyfat. Green tea has been shown to increase the metabolism and help in reducing insulin resistance. So replace that coffee with green tea.

Coconut or coconut oil
Coconut oil has a different type of fat called medium chain triglycerides (MCT). Originally used to help treat obesity, when MCT oil is metabolized in the body, it behaves more like a carbohydrate than a fat. Unlike other fats, MCT oil does not go through the lymphatic system. Instead, it is transported directly to the liver where it is metabolized so it releases energy like a carbohydrate and creates lots of ketones (which can be used for fuel) in the process. So it helps give you energy without the increase in sugar level that sugar will have.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon has been shown to decrease blood sugar levels to some degree and again, high sugar levels equal more storage of fat. So start sprinkling cinnamon on your food. I especially like cinnamon on sweet potatoes, apples and oatmeal.

Cayenne pepper
Eating spicy foods have been shown to temporarily increase your metabolism. A lot of fat burners add spicy ingredients to their mixtures for this exact reason. So go out and sprinkle your steak with that spicy mixture.

Grapefruit
Made popular by the grapefruit diet, grapefruit can aid in reducing body fat by reducing the glycemic load of food. Lower glycemic load means less fat storage, less cravings and a better health. Just make sure not to combine medication with grapefruit because it will increase the medication's potency and can be dangerous.

Protein powder
Protein is thermogenic, meaning it increases the body's temperature which in turns makes you burn fat. So every time you eat protein you will burn more calories than if you would eat carbohydrates or fats. Hence why we always recommend many small protein meals as opposed to snacks with just sugar like fruit. Protein can be found in meats, poultry, eggs, beans and powder.
