Whiplash---Your Aching Neck or Back

I was trying to find a medical web site on whiplash and pain sponsored by medical doctors, not chiropractors. It was very dificult until I found the Bonati Institute's web site. They have a page on whiplash injury and understanding pain.

You or someone you love may be involved in a rear end collision and suffer an injury without breaking a bone. I am here to tell you, if you don't already know---you don't have to break a bone to suffer debilitating and ongoing pain.

You may be glad to read what's on this web site, and see that medical doctors actually acknowledge the severity of muscle and ligament whiplash injury that may not go away with exercise.

The reason I am stating this is because I have been rear ended 3 times in my lifetime, and was amazed when a doctor , hired by the auto insurance company--after reviewing my medical history ---and chiropractic records, wrote that after my being rear ended while stopped at a red light, and pushed into the car ahead of me---by a fellow going 40-45 miles an hour----he had decided that I had incurred a mere muscle strain and possibly no injury! I felt as if he were making a liar out of me, the chiropractors who examined me, the doctor who sent me for an MRI, and the attorney who was trying to help me get reimbursed for the salary I lost going for therapy and suffering. I was told that I had unnecessary therapy and there was no reason for having been transported to the hospital by fireman who know that a person can suffer a severe neck injury if not examined soon after what appears to be a serious collision. The fellow who hit into me--his car was demolished by the impact. Luckily, his car was 1000 pounds lighter than mine. If he had been driving an SUV, I would have been toast.

I am not a medical professional--therefore I listened to the fire department EMT. I figured that he knew better than I did. I went to a chiropractor because after taking ibuprofen for 3 or so days, about a day or two after the accident---the pills were not working, and the pain became worse. It was a Friday evening and I felt that I couldn't wait until Monday to get relief. I went to the phone book and found that a chiropractor's office was open on Saturday. I went first thing Saturday morning. Doctors and insurance companies--I have found don't care for chiropractors.

So I committed 2 sins---ambulance and chiropractor---but I did not know any of this. The 3rd sin was that I let the chiropractor treat me for too long. I was told that I had to listen to the doctor. He is the expert, not me. And when my back was burning up and felt like a board---I committed the 4th sin---I had an MRI. Every time I stopped therapy, soon after I started to hurt again. A NIGHTMARE. Here some speed demon idiot plows into me, and I am the bad guy because I spend money trying to get fixed. You just can't win!

I very much understand marieclaire's situation. It has been a year since a pick up truck at about 45 m/hr rear ended me in my honda civic while I was going at about 5 m/hr. The impact made me rear end the guy in front of me who was very slowly turning to the right. Mine was a hit and run situation and my auto insurance representative met with me to insult me by telling me that I was OK. When only I know I have been in a lot of pain since the accident. I am a healthy person otherwise and since I started taking pain killer and many other medications for muscle relaxing and inflamation, I have had to miss work because the meds. make me nauseaus. My auto insurance reps. were pressuring me to sign the doc. to settle the claim. Thank God I didn't sign! I have spent a lot of money in treatment and the pain seems to get worse with time. I hope they reimburse me all the medical expenses I have incurred. Since the Houston Police doesn't show up unless someone asks to be taken to the emergency room, I had to go the day after the accident to file the report. I also went to my primary care physician. Since then I have been taking prescribed and over the counter medication, Chiropractic care, Orthopedist care, Physical therapy, neurological test, an MRI, X-Rays, a Cortizone shot that didn't help at all, acupuncture, massages, and I do the recommended exercises at home. The neck and shoulder pain is muscle spasms, according to the doctors. My claims is open and I don't know what to expect. In the mean time I am stuck with my current auto insurance company because of the claim in process. Unfortunately, a about a month after the hit and run accident a girl hit my car on the front passanger's side while I was parked (filling up at a gas station.) Eventually, the brat admited fault and her insurance paid for my car's repair. I have no idea how this will be interpreted by my insurance company. I am afraid they may be suspicious, even though I wasn't at fault at any of the two accidents I suffered.

I so understand what you are talking about. I was in the same situation. About 10 years ago while driving near my house I was in a horrible car accident. I was in ICU for 2 weeks. Took me so long to get better, Dr. were saing the same thing about me and my back situation, I was making a left turn driving in my ford escort when down the hill at 65 miles a hr, comes this kid in an SUV and hit me. His car bounced off mine I sustained back injury head injury and four broken ribs lacerated liver and a collapesed luch. Not good. It was month of going to Dr.s visits and ir just seemed to me that they were all against me I felt so alone. But Yoga has not cured the problem but it sure helped me more anything. Thank you for sharing your story Loredana
