Sacrificing For Love: Men or Women?

Who do you think is most likely to sacrifice career goals to keep a relationship together? If you're like most people, you guessed "women are." But a new study disproves that common belief. In a surprising twist, a survey of 237 university students found that men were more likely than women to give love a priority over individual achievement.

Of course, these were university students - inexperienced in the demands of day-to-day life in a committed relationship, and with the short-term perspective of youth. Whether or not the attitudes of today prevail over time remains to be seen. Historically, women by a vast majority have been the ones to set aside career goals in favor of marriage and family.

What about you? Have you given up a career path for love?

My life mission comes first and foremost. As long as my relationships are aligned with my mission in life, they will stay right where they are. However, if they diverge, I will have to sever those relationships. That is unfortunate, but I can't sacrifice myself on the alter of blind loyalty, and I won't allow anyone to detract me from what it is that I am supposed to be doing. In the end, I think that's what a woman actually wants. If my girlfriend was successful in detracting me from my life's mission, I don't think she would respect me. She would probably disrespect me, and I would have lost her anway, as well as my soul.
