5 Steps to Survive the Flu Season

1. Get the Flu Shot As Soon As It's Available

The CDC recommends that adults and children older than 6 months receive the flu shot every year. Of course, if you have any known allergies to the flu vaccine, then you shouldn't receive it.

  • It takes about 2-3 weeks for the vaccination to begin being effective.
  • The flu vaccine will not give you the flu. More information on why at the CDC's website.
  • It will not provide total protection from getting the flu. However, based on numerous studies, the severity and duration of the flu will be milder if you have had the vaccination.
  • If you have trouble with needles, you can (normally) opt for the nasal spray.
