My goal as a therapist is to help clients reach a deeper understanding of themselves and cope more effectively in their daily lives. As a compassionate but interactive therapist, I develop a personal approach tailored to each client and his or her particular needs. Integrating psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques, I help clients build on their strengths, remove the blocks that keep them from moving forward in their lives, and empower them to achieve realistic, attainable goals.
In my Corte Madera private practice, I treat adolescents, individual adults and couples struggling with a variety of issues: anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship issues, phase of life challenges, career transitions, trauma, and grief.
I am most passionate about supporting mothers and couples through all phases of their parenting journey, from pregnancy planning and infertility through pregnancy loss, birth trauma, postpartum adjustment, postpartum mood disorders, and early parenting. I am certified by Postpartum Support International in the assessment and treatment of perinatal mood disorders and am a certified Gottman “Bringing Baby Home Educator.” I also lead Pathways: A Postpartum Support Group for Moms and collaborate with a valuable network of perinatal professionals.
For over 20 years, I have also specialized in the treatment of body image disturbances, eating disorders, chemical dependency and other addictions. After years of clinical experience at an intensive outpatient program, I directed the eating disorder treatment program at the Community Institute for Psychotherapy (CIP), training and supervising interns. Valuing prevention, I also created and directed CIP’s school-based eating disorder prevention program, EmBODY Power, for 6 years. Since launching into full-time private practice 20 years ago, treating eating disorders and other addictions continues to be an area of specialty. Along with doing individual therapy, my knowledge of community resources can help build the treatment team clients need to recover successfully.
