She has a BS in Environmental Toxicology from UC Davis, where she worked as a research scientist for many years at the School of Veterinary Medicine. She pursued graduate work in Oriental Medicine at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, graduating summa cum laud in Traditional Oriental Medicine. She is a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine nationally through the NCCAOM.
