I am originally from Los Angeles, California. I came to NY for Physical Therapy school after I fell in love with the city. Being a native Californian and of Asian descent, I have always veered toward a healthy, eastern-based and holistically-oriented approach to healthcare. There are a few acupuncturists in the family, my father is a pharmacist and my uncle is an optometrist. I grew up with a lot of healthcare talks and awareness.
I went to Columbia University’s Program in Physical Therapy. With the training I received there, I was able to jump into my field feeling comfortable about treating most conditions. I started working alongside chiropractors and learned advanced manual joint mobilizations my first year out, which I have been practicing up until this day. My second job was in a manual therapy clinic run by a Physical Therapist who organized the advanced manual therapy continuing education courses in Maitland Australian Joint Mobilizations. Maitland Joint Mobilizations is the main style of manual therapy that I practice. My third job was in a facility that offered corporate Physical Therapy and I was in charge of one particular site, in a major banking institution. I progressed and became the manager of a few different sites, all the while practicing manual therapy and adding administration and managerial skills to my resume.
I then took additional advanced training in manual skills, became certified in Strength and Conditioning, KinesioTaping and in Pilates. I have treated all major orthopedic injuries and have worked with professional athletes, working professionals and some in the older population. My focus is on the whole person, and then the specific injury. I emphasize core strengthening, posture and then specific rehabilitation exercises with progression back to their daily routine or specific sport. I utilize Pilates, functional training, manual joint mobilizations and Kinesio/McConnell Taping. I emphasize active therapy, making sure patients are aware that a lot of their healing and progression comes from their involvement in their own treatment. As such, you are given Home Exercise Programs immediately and we tailor and modify them constantly during their time in rehabilitation and they progress much more rapidly. With all of my experience, I have now added a large repertoire of colleagues that range from the traditional physicians/surgeons to alteranative physicians and healthcare practitioners. I like to collaborate with others and our teamwork allows you to progress more quickly and with the tools necessary to understand and prevent re-injury
I am now president and owner of ActiveCare Physical Therapy. There are two Physical Therapists and two Physical Therapy Aides. When you come into our clinic, you receive a full half an hour of manual therapy with the Physical Therapist, then exercises performed with the assistance of an aide, but are still directly supervised by the therapist. It is completely one-on-one therapy. We pay a lot of attention to detail and will be constantly correcting your technique in your exercises in order for you to learn well and to maintain your newly corrected and oftentimes pain-free condition. It is an intimate setting and we become very close and personal with you. If you have time constraints, we work with you on that, either focusing more on the manual component or emphasizing the Home Exercise Program so that you continue your therapy but without adding more stress to your daily routine. We listen to you.
