Dr. Holmes is a native of Carbondale, Pennsylvania. He completed his B.A. degree in Biological Science at Temple University and his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon finishing his professional training in Philadelphia, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed a general dentistry residency in Lyster Army Hospital at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Upon completion of active military duty, Dr. Holmes served two years as the Dental Director at a federally funded health center situated in a medically under-served rural area. In 1976 Dr. Holmes and his wife Beth moved to Mifflinburg and soon opened a private dental practice. Throughout his years of practice, Dr. Holmes has pursued advanced continuing education. He was awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry for completing advanced studies and successfully testing in the top one percent of all dentists seeking the Fellowship Award. Additionally, he has a special interest in Sleep Medicine, particularly the treatment of patients suffering from sleep disordered breathing and sleep apnea. He has been a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Sleep Disorders Association and the Sleep Disorders Dental Society. He is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the Pennsylvania Dental Association and the Pennsylvania Donated Dental Services (DDS. Holmes has also taught in the Department of Dental Hygiene at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
