I help people overcome depression, cope with anxiety and relationship breakups, and explore and resolve life problems. My work emphasizes building new skills for coping with problems and developing better perspectives for changing and growing long after therapy is completed. My clients describe me as "no-nonsense", combined with understanding, solid ideas and helpful insights---someone who helps them to be more than they realized they could be.
My approach primarily uses cognitive therapy techniques within an identity-development framework. In their work with me, clients learn to stretch themselves to become the people they most want to become. My work emphasizes becoming a whole person, beyond the limitations of one's background or childhood experiences.
I'm a past President of the Oregon Psychological Association. In 2008, I received the Distinguished Service Award from the Lane County Psychologists' Association; in 2003, I was honored by PacifiCare Insurance as a therapist whose work demonstrated "superior clinical outcomes".
