I am a board certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. In my work I regard empathy, responsiveness, and respect for the patient as core therapeutic values. As an analyst I place special importance on gaining insight into unconscious contributors to current difficulties, but also recognize the importance of clarifying and resolving here-and-now problems. When appropriate I prescribe medication or work short-term with individuals (adult; late-adolescent) or couples. My style is collaborative rather than authoritarian. For many years I have taught psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and professional ethics, and have published in the major journals in my field. I also serve as an Ethics Committee Chairman. I am a training and supervising psychoanalyst (Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia) and am on the Faculty of Thomas Jefferson University and the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Medical Staff. I have offices in Center City Philadelphia and in Chestnut Hill.
