Dr. Tad Sztykowski is the founder and owner of the Center For Preventive Medicine. Established in September of 1990, the Center For Preventive Medicine has assisted over 10,000 patients with their health problems. Dr. Szytkowski was born in Poland and graduated from Medical School in Gdansk in 1982. His postgraduate training took him to the Institute of Female Disorders in Gdansk where he completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency obtaining board certification in OB/GYN in 1987. During those five years he intensively trained in emergency medicine as well as completed his internship in internal diseases, surgery and pediatrics. In 1987 he was nominated by the Polish Ministry of Health to conduct Preventive Health Studies on over 100,000 women with in a 25km radius (18 miles) from the planned construction site of the first Nuclear Power Plant in Poland. He also started his Ph.D. dissertation in cervical carcinoma. However, this was cut short when his love and interest in Chinese Medicine brought him to the United States in September of 1987.
In the same month he commenced his studies of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the oldest U.S. College, New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) in Watertown, MA. After graduating from NESA in 1990 he passed the national exam set forth by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. While in school Dr. Tad took extra curricular courses in Japanese Acupuncture including extensive pulse diagnosis, palpation and disease pattern differentiation. In 1995, Dr. Tad Sztykowski became the first President of the newly formed Rhode Island Society of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In 1998, he had successfully championed the passage of the bill increasing the educational standards for Acupuncturists. In 1999 he had lobbied and helped to pass the first in the East and fifth in the country insurance bill requiring the coverage for Acupuncture via the rider.
This bill increased Acupuncture coverage from none to about 15-20% of RI population. In 1999 he had formed the Foundation for the Development of Integrative Medicine. In 2000 he became a board member of the American Association of Oriental medicine and in 2002 its Vice President.
Being a board member of AAOM he has lobbied for the Medicare Coverage of Acupuncture.
His training and teaching started with an Assistantship at NESA, 1991-1992, and later starting the first Acupuncture alcohol and drug detox center in R.I. in 1992. In 1993, he started the first program in the U.S. for medical residents at Rhode Island Hospital, in cooperation with Brown Medical School. He was founder and member of faculty of this program for over 10 years. His professional, educational and legislative efforts were recognized by the American Association of Oriental Medicine when in 2003 he received the prestigious Acupuncturist of the Year Award. He has taught on the topics of Acupuncture, Oriental & Integrative Medicine etc. at various organizations and institutions, including Brown University Medical School, R.I. Hospital, Woman & Infants Hospital, American Heart Association, Brain Injury Association, Annual New England’s Workman’s Compensation Conference and hundreds of other places. Dr. Sztykowski has successfully treated over 9000 patients, performing over 200,000 treatments for conditions ranging from allergies to cancer, often very chronic and debilitating. His passion and love for Oriental medicine has made his clinic one of the busiest and most renown in the United States.

Dr. Sztykowski strongly supports his patients’ right to choose the health provider that fits their health needs. He believes that health is not merely a lack of symptoms but complete harmony on social, physical and mental level. In his spare time, Dr. Tad enjoys spending time with his wife Kasia have four children, Zofia, Bart, Anna and Julia. He also enjoys meditation, nature, and tae kwon do.
