Dr. Carol Lockwood, a dental professional for over 35 years, started her practice of general dentistry in 1992 in Deerfield immediately after graduating first in her class in clinical skills from Northwestern University.
After practicing dental hygiene for more than 15 years previously, she realized the dream of her lifetime by graduating from dental school at age 41 and finally becoming "the Dr."
Upon graduation she won the prestigious awards from both the American Prosthodontic Society and the American Association of Women Dentists for clinical excellence and leadership. She was accepted to the UCLA School of Prosthodontics for a post-graduate degree but chose instead to start a family practice in Deerfield.
Her commitment to mastering the many details of dentistry both functional (making the bite comfortable with the jaw joint, or the TMJ) and esthetic (making sure the teeth blend properly into their environment so they appear natural) makes her enjoy partnering with her patients to realize the smile of their dreams!
Even though she graduated at the top of her class in clinical skills, Dr. Lockwood continues to strive for further expertise by studying with some of the world's most accomplished dental educators, most notably Dr. Frank Spear at The Seattle Institute. This additional post-graduate work has given her a more comprehensive background in occlusion (how the teeth fit and work together), esthetics (blending teeth harmoniously into their environment) and full mouth reconstructive dentistry (prosthodontics).
In August, 2008, Dr. Spear invited her to be part of a newly-formed Spear Faculty Study Club, an honor extended to only 2% of the thousands of dentists he has educated over the past 20 years. The Seattle Institute, newly named the Spear Institute is world-renowned at providing comprehensive, concise post-graduate education to dentists.
