Joyce Mwaniki

Dr. Joyce Mwaniki, is a doctoral prepared and board certified family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner licensed in the states of Texas, New Mexico, New York and Oklahoma. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a doctoral degree in nursing practice and from the University of Texas in Arlington with a master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health. Dr. Mwaniki utilizes evidence based scientific and holistic approaches to provide patient centered care. She understands the need for a holistic approach to patient care, and considers the interconnectedness of the body, mind and spirit with client’s environment, social/cultural experience, and relationships, when deciding on treatment plans. Dr. Mwaniki has been in the healthcare field for over 16 years with the last 8 + years as a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings. She has worked with clients with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive and compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, psychosis, alcohol and other substance use disorders, eating disorders, insomnia among many mental health disorders. Dr. Mwaniki’s goal is to provide a culturally competent, holistic and wellness focused service that promotes mental health in everyday life. Dr. Mwaniki’s greatest strength is the ability to build productive and supportive relationships with her clients. She takes pride in being compassionate, patient and a good listener who treats all clients with the dignity and respect that they deserve. She is committed to providing high quality mental health care and supporting patients on their journey towards recovery. Dr. Mwaniki understands it is crucial to stay informed. To keep up with the latest evidence-based practices, she attends mental health conferences and pharmaceutical meetings, reads evidence based journals and networks with professional colleagues. During her free time, Dr. Mwaniki enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, traveling, playing tennis, and participating in community events.
