Debra has been practicing yoga since 1999 and in 2004 took her initial 200-Hour teacher training based on the Iyengar method. In 2005/2006 she completed her second 200-hour teacher training through Yoga Works where the emphasis was on the Ashtanga and Iyengar methods of yoga. In 2013, Debra completed a 300-hour Advance Training through the Ananda Wellness Institute in California. The program emphasized Yoga Therapeutics, Meditation and Ayurveda.
Debra is registered at the E-RYT 500 level through Yoga Alliance and is a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) through International Association of Yoga Therapists in Washington State. Debra is a teacher of teachers, having created a 200-hour teacher training program and is credentialed as a Registered Yoga School through Yoga Alliance. Her teacher training program is based on the eight constituents of Patanjali’s Ashtanga-Yoga. The Hatha Yoga training honors the Iyengar method for learning yoga postures, with great emphasis on alignment, anatomy, and basic yoga therapeutics, which she feels is necessary and foundational for any beginner teacher.
In addition to the passion Debra feels for teaching yoga, she also founded, directed and operated an integrated healthcare and yoga facility called Urban Oasis Yoga and Wellness from 2006- 2015. In 2015 Debra moved to beautiful Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State with her family. She owns a small yoga studio called NW Yoga Shala where she teaches 16 yoga classes a week, offers monthly workshops, advance trainings, once a year teacher training and private therapeutic yoga sessions.
