Dr. Alla Hynes is a board certified Ophthalmologist with a specialty for caring for and treating of a wide variety or eye diseases including Cataract, Glaucoma and Uveitis.
Dr. Hynes has been a practicing Ophthalmologist for 15 years and has been recognized by Consumers’ Research Council of America as one of Americas Best Ophthalmologists in 2010 and 2011. She received her MD Degree Cum Laude from St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy at St. Petersburg, Russia. While attending medical school she studied abroad at the University of Pennsylvania on a scholarship from Russian Federation President B. Yeltsin.
She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Washington Hospital Center/George Town University and completed her Fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School.
For the past five years, Dr. Hynes served as George Washington University’s Director and Assistant Professor in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis as well as their Chief of Ophthalmology, Department of Veteran’s Administration, in Martinsburg WV. In this capacity, she was able to continue treating patients while also teaching Ophthalmology residents in the classroom and in surgical techniques.
She has authored and co-authored several professional article publications and is also a Certified Trabectom Surgeon which is a new surgical technique for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
Dr. Hynes has also served on the Glaucoma Advisory Board “Glaucoma Management: the Next Era/ExPress Glaucoma Filtration Device Alcon Laboratories” and the Regional Clinical Advisory Board Meeting for Lux Biosciences.

Interests: She chose Ophthalmology as her career because she considers the gift of sight to be the most precious and rewarding of our senses to experience the world around us. She enjoys being able to provide complete eye care for her patients from diagnosing, preparing treatment plans, and when necessary, performing necessary eye surgeries. In addition, Dr. Hynes finds it extremely gratifying to be able to perform a surgery that restores a patient’s gift of eye sight.
When Dr. Hynes is not seeing patients or performing surgeries, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, volunteering at her Church, taking in nature during long walks, biking, and reading.
