aaahh... relief! The name says it all! aaahh.. as in a sign a sigh of relief! Or better put, finally relief.
People are often referred to our facility by patients and healthcare providers. Typically, they have sought relief from several different medical practitioners to no avail. aaahh Chirospa is the office of Dr. Kirk E. Manson, graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic-West, who has been in practice for over 25 years.  He specializes in the treatment of chronic pain, along with other conditions. Through examination, a differential diagnosis is obtained to determine a treatment plan. One of Dr. Mansons protocols combines Chiropractic Manipulation with Myofascial Release. In order to ease muscle tension, Myofascial Release is performed followed by Chiropractic Manipulation.  This combination is proven extremely effective

Dr. Manson is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic West. Dr. Manson has been practicing for over 25 years. He specializes in the treatment of chronic pain and utilizes a blend of treatment methods including manual manipulation as well as the activator adjusting instrument.  The activator method provides a gentle, low-force chiropractic adjustment.  This approach works especially well for children and elderly patients.

Dr Manson worked for Lucy Whyte-Ferguson, D.C., who is recognized as a world expert in the treatment of Myofascial Pain, for seven years.  Dr Ferguson worked directly with Janet Travell M.D., who coined the term Myofascial Pain Syndrome and Trigger Point Therapy.  Dr. Manson also assisted Dr. Ferguson in teaching Myofascial Release Technique at UNM Medical School.

Myofascial Release can be extremely effective in treating Myofascial Pain, what studies have proven to be the leading cause of chronic pain.  The diagnosis of Myofascial Pain involves applying pressure to the myofascial connective tissue or trigger point resulting in a referral pattern of pain unique to that muscle. The benefits of myofascial release include increased range of motion, improved flexibility, and reduced pain.

Medically speaking, Trigger Points are defined as a hyper irritable locus of muscle tissue.  Often these areas are sensitive and extremely painful when pressure is applied. More importantly, trigger points will refer pain to other areas of the body. A classic example of a trigger point is one involving the shoulder region.  For example, you might have wrist pain, which you think is pain from the carpal tunnel. It quite possibly could be a trigger point in one of the rotator cuff muscles referring pain down into the wrist.  Often, Myofascial Release applied to the appropriate trigger points of the rotator cuff will alleviate the pain in the wrist.

Another component of our treatment plan includes home based stretches and balance exercises to help ease muscle tension. Muscles tightness is usually developed in a region, rather than simply as a single muscle. For this reason, it is most effective to stretch not only the muscles that cause Myofascial pain but also the other supporting muscles around the area as well as those muscles areas that work against the affected muscle group.  Our goal is to build coordinated movement and train the muscle tissue into a more functional movement pattern. Our patients are each given specific stretches to do periodically during the day to keep their bodies flexible and limber. When performed regularly, home based stretches/ exercises increase range of motion while significantly reducing or eliminating both the severity and frequency of the pain their pain.

Our treatment protocols focus on the integrity of the Nervous System.   Typically when people think of chiropractic care it is either for back and neck pain. However, our treatment encompasses a variety of protocols which have proven to allieviate pains in the shoulders, arms, hands, knees, legs, hips, sacroiliac, sciatica , knee and leg pain migraines and cluster headaches,. Myofascial Release is also effective in the treatment of TMJ and reducing the pain associated with Fibromyalgia.
