Elizabeth L Rogge MS ARNP

Elizabeth L. Rogge received her Master of Science in Nursing for Adult Psychiatry and Mental Health from University of Maryland and is board certified in Washington State as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) with Prescriptive Authority, certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), and Clinical Hypnotherapist. She has had years of training in the spectrum of psychotherapies: group psychotherapy with the eminent Dr. Jerome Frank; family systems therapy with pioneers Satir, Haley, Bowen, and Minuchin; psychodrama with Dr. Lee Fine; and psychodynamic psychotherapy with psychoanalysts supervisors in Baltimore.

At Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Phipps Psychiatric Service Acute Treatment Clinic (ATC), she evaluated and treated acutely ill outpatients, supervised psychiatric residents, and treated Johns Hopkins University students. She was a preceptor for University of Maryland Graduate School of Nursing and served on auxillary clinical faculty for University of Washington Graduate School of Nursing. She served as psychiatric nurse-consultant for Baltimore’s US Public Health Hospital. While in that position she developed the hospital’s clinical specialist position and its psychiatric consultation-liaison service. She is an active member of American Nurses Association and Washington State Nurses Association.

Since moving to Seattle in 1983, Elizabeth has been providing office-based psychiatric care to patients with difficult to treat bipolar disorder, major depression, anxiety disorders, and other serious psychiatric illnesses. Through accurate diagnosis and intensive treatment, she has been helping patients and families manage debilitating illness and improve quality of life. Her current practice utilizes active medication management enhanced by brief focused psychotherapeutic interventions: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psycho-education, psychodynamic psychotherapy and stress management training.

With exciting advances in neuroscience providing scientific basis for body and mind interactions as the cause of modern day illness, treatment options are becoming more evidence-based and are requiring more collaboration among all disciplines involved in care.  Needless to say, Elizabeth’s focus of interest and expertise are neuroscience  and psychotherapeutic approaches centered on body-mind connection.

Elizabeth is married to Timothy A. Rogge MD.  Their belief in brain plasticity and the  resiliency of the human spirit guide and inspire them in their mission to help individuals and families emerge whole from the challenges of their illness.  In life, they subscribe to healthy practices that keep them focused in delivering quality patient care.  They have three adult sons.

Timothy A Rogge MD

Dr Rogge completed medical school at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, internal medicine training at University of Washington Hospitals, and psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is certified as a specialist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has served as assistant professor on the clinical faculties in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and University of Washington. As a senior writer and editor for Milliman and Robertson, he helps develop their best practice guidelines, used throughout the United States by hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies. He is a member of American Medical Association and Washington State Medical Association.

From 1977 to 1979 he was medical director for mental health services at Howard County Health Department in Columbia, Maryland. From 1979 to 1982 he was assistant director for student mental health services at Johns Hopkins University. After moving to Seattle in 1982 he was medical director for psychiatric inpatient services at Providence Hospital for eight years. At Fairfax Hospital in Kirkland he was hospital medical director from 1992 to 1999. He helped develop physician services and was a full-time hospitalist for inpatient psychiatry at Swedish Providence campus from 1999 to 2002. Since then Dr Rogge has been providing office-based psychiatric treatment to adults and adolescents for the Puget Sound region. Areas of expertise include treatment-resistant depression and bipolar disorder as well as depression occurring with chronic pain and addiction. He is certified for Suboxone detoxification for opioid dependence.

Family Medical Psychiatry provides evidence-based quality mental health care.  We teach patients and families so that they can understand the illness and the choices that must be made. This is a model for medical care found to improve outcomes in specialty care centers for cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Active medication management with patient and family education are cornerstones of our treatment approach. At the same time that we focus on interrupting an acute episode of illness, we begin the work of preventing recurrence by educating both patient and family on the crucial elements of treatment adherence, lifestyle change and relapse prevention. We teach family what is known about their family member’s illness and treatment. The role of lifestyle is reviewed – diet, exercise, sleep, stress, drug use and alcohol use. Each family has a plan for interception of relapse with early detection and aggressive treatment.  We consider ourselves part of a team and communicate regularly with involved physicians and therapists to coordinate care.
