Dr. Faisal M Mirza, founder and president of OrthoSynthesis Inc., is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon, now in private practice in Silicon Valley. Raised in Canada, Dr. Mirza completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario and was followed by orthopaedic surgery residency at McMaster University, internationally renowned for evidence-based orthopaedics. Dr. Mirza went on to complete a shoulder and sports medicine surgery and arthroplasty fellowship at McMaster.
 
He subsequently joined the VA Palo Alto as Director of Shoulder and Sports Medicine Surgery and Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University in an academic surgical practice. While at Stanford and the VA, Palo Alto, Dr. Mirza developed a thriving shoulder and sports practice, trained numerous Stanford orthopaedic surgery residents, established the Stanford Sports Journal Club, and explored various research endeavours, including publishing and presenting internationally over the years.
 
His evolution of thought in bone, muscle, joint health through research, and a passion to drive medical device innovation, led him to leave the academic realm to explore a medical device fellowship at the FDA, where he gained expertise in device and combination product regulation, review, and research. This experience fostered an ever-expanding awareness across the spectrum of surgical and non-surgical management of disease as well as patient safety and health. At the FDA, Dr. Mirza received an outcomes research grant as principal investigator, chaired various FDA meetings, and was honoured with an outstanding achievement award in contributions towards public private partnerships on computational modeling in medical devices.
 
As part of broadening his understanding of musculoskeletal health beyond devices, Dr. Mirza left the FDA to join Amgen, a leading biotechnology company, as Medical Director, Global Bone Health. In this position, Dr. Mirza extended his knowledge of non-surgical management in treating bone, muscle, and joint disorders through development of biotechnology therapeutics from early to late phases, pre-clinical and clinical, as well as refining education and marketing of products for health care providers and patients. He received several awards at Amgen, US and Global, for his passion, dedication, and attention to detail.
