Debra Gapp offers counseling services from her home. After several sessions with her, it became apparent why-she doesn t take her profession very seriously.

During the course of my counseling with her, she repeatedly left the door open to her office which is really just a very small room in her home. It seems that her billing system is a mess as well. Although I paid promptly at every session, she would occasionally asked why her records showed that I had not.

On top of this, she just isn t a very good counselor. She didn t provide any relevant help, and it seemed like she was getting most of her knowledge from a cheap self-help book, as her expertise didn t seem very deep. She keeps her phone on during sessions and has several times read text messages while I was speaking without offering an explanation.

I feel like I should mention that she seems like a very nice, well intentioned person. Unfortunately this is overshadowed by her lack of expertise and professionalism.

If you need mental help and are in the Vermillion area, I would recommend finding services in Yankton, Sioux Falls or Sioux City. Unfortunately there aren t many alternatives in our area.

I would consider this counselor very perceptive in her profession. She addresses issues as they arise and is very knowledgeable as to how to correct them. In five sessions I believe I have been assisted in my well being and the well being of my marriage. She brings out things that I was not aware of and has helped me tremendously already! I would highly recommend her. I have been to other counselors that took a lot more time and did way less for me. Her facilities are in her home which is comfortable.

Very calm and understanding counselor, good customer service--answers phone calls promptly. Has a wide variety of tools/techniques to address anger / anxiety / communication / relationship issues.

Deb is the third counselor I've seen in the past 10 years or so, and her approach is definitely the most clear and focused. After a few sessions of general getting-to-know-each-other types of discussions, we immediately started developing a treatment plan for my depression. This has included pulling in resources from different approaches, working with my family doctor to manage medicines, and keeping me actively engaged and in control of my recovery through "homework." Although she is the only counselor I've seen in this area, I think it would be hard to do better.
I also think it's important to mention that I've never had any issues with professionalism or feeling that my concerns weren't being taken seriously. While it's true that she works from her home, her counseling service is managed just like any other office I've worked with.

I never had to doubt their qualifications. They made their credentials completely obvious, which made me feel a lot safer. I love that they are always more than happy to answer my questions, and actually welcome questions. . I got an appointment quickly. I've never had to wait too long. Their office was well organized and clean.

I went to Gapp Counseling Services for about a year starting in 2012. Deb is very professional and uses several different methods in her practice. I was given thought provoking journaling "assignments" and things to read as well as DVDs to watch.

From the beginning Deb made it clear that her goal was to not only work on the issues that brought me there but to develop the skills necessary to live an emotionally healthy life.
