My horse is dead after recieving care from this vet. Here are the facts, you can decide for yourself what happened: He recomended a dewormer under the brand name synanthic which is not labeled for horses. That is not too unusual for vets often use drugs in ways not specifically used for the purposes based on publication of case studies etc. in the academic world. But after my horse's death I did some research; synanthic has undergone a total of one study in horses; a study that was performed with effects studied in a necropsy after short term worming. This has no implication for long term health affects in horses; a dead horse would not experience these problems. My horse ended up in liver failure with proper synanthic dosing instructions per this vet. She had been on the wormers labeled for horses her entire life and had not experienced any adverse problems; Fecal floats had always come out negative and she was healthy and kept her weight. The specialist at NCSU was confused to why this wormer was being used; He informed me that the three way rotation should have been fine throughout the horse's lifetime and that the synanthic was simply not necessary. I have heard that others have had problems with this vet also. I met a lady that had horses go from healthy to mere skeletons under his practices (and the transformation was not a result of poor care). So, if you want to go to this DVM, nobody is going to stop you, but maybe you should do your homework first...
