We totally agree with the other review we read about Shabbona. There are some nurses who are absolutely wonderful. Overall there has been a change in directors and the slipshod way in which problems in this facility are handled leave a lot to be desired. The cna's change constantly. the turnover in staff is unbelievable. It is clear most of the cna's don't care about what kind of job they are doing. Too much gossip and not enough emphasis put on the care of the elderly in the facility.
My great-grandmother died after getting a kidney infection, which the hospital confirmed was due to a lack of water. The facility had not made sure she was hydrated. They would leave the alarms ringing in the hallways, I walked into a room to see a lady crying that she couldn't move. The nurses are constantly in the breakroom having a smoke, which is fine and dandy, except they all go in there at the exact same time.
The facility itself is not bad, the gardens are very quaint. But I was sooo disappointed in the people running the center. There are a handful of nurses that are wonderful, and really care about the elderly, but my opinion is that the mass majority do not.
I can't walk in there anymore without tearing up. Because I know that there is a good chance my great grandmother would be with us still, had I brought her back to my home.
