ATTENTION: TO ALL PATIENTS OF DR. SHALLCROSS
Recently, as a new patient, desperately seeking help for the chronic pain I have had for years, was finally able to get a physician to refer me to Upstate Medical Rehabilitation. Unfortunately, I was assigned to Dr. Shallcross. As a brief history, I could not get any other specialist to help me with the chronic pain or even refer me to a pain management center. As the pain progressed, I could barely function at work or even take care of my family. Sadly to say, I was so desperate, I starting taking a family member’s pain medication. Trust me, I know this was wrong, but as you all know, when you are in so much pain you just wish to die, I had to do something.
I came in to see Dr. Shallcross with all my history, including the time frame that I had been taking a family member’s medication. I was completely honest with him, hoping for at least a professional, caring doctor. I was terribly wrong.
He did not ask hardly any questions in regards to my condition, how long I had been in pain, who I had seen prior, etc. Once he heard me state that I had such pain that I resorted to taking another person’s pain medication, he threw my file down, came within four feet of me, and literally screamed, “And why should I even consider helping you? You do realize that is illegal, and I want no part of this”. I tried to explain that no one would refer me or help me, but before I could even finish speaking, he held up his hand and said, “You are not getting any medication from me”. I advised that I knew what I had done was wrong, and now that I finally had the chance to see a pain management physician, I wanted to do this the right way. He looked at me and laughed. I was so shocked by his attitude towards me, I was speechless.
Finally, in tears, I asked him what I should do about withdrawals since I was not going to go back and start taking anyone else’s medication. He looked at me with disgust and actually stated, “Good luck with that” and walked out.
Two weeks ago, I had a seizure from the withdrawal off the medication and had to go to the emergency room. Once stabilized, I explained to the attending physician what occurred. He was outraged!! He could not believe that a pain management “specialist” would have let this occur, and wanted to obtain a statement from me so he could report him to the State Board.
It is very sad that even an emergency room doctor, who never met me or knew my history, had more compassion and understanding than Dr. Shallcross.
I sincerely hope and pray that you receive better care than I did. I came back to leave this to try and warn everyone I could about this doctor, so you will not end up almost dying from his “care”.

They paid close attention to me and all of my questions were answered. Their staff is very friendly and professional. I was very satisfied with my visit. They were helpful and I left feeling encouraged. The office was easy enough to find. I on longer trust in dr. Burke, the drive is much longer, but after seeing Dr. Shallcross i feel more confidant .

They answered most of my questions but I could have used more information. Their staff was not that friendly, and didn't go out of their way to make me feel welcome. I felt like my needs were mostly met, but they didn't make any extra effort. The office was easy enough to find. If I were in some kind of an emergency I'd go back. Otherwise, I'm going to look for something better. They don'return phone calls even when a prescription is involved. Constantly make g you come in so they can charge you for refilling prescriptions, this office will nickel and dime you to death....
