Dr. Erwin was the only Orthodontist in the area while our son attended a local school. He took over the care plan for our son, who was there for just under a year. Virtually no progress was made, despite our calls asking when he would begin rubber bands (he never did). The films taken by our orthodontist when our son returned showed virtually no change - the only positive was that he did not LOSE ground. We paid for a service not rendered. Despite phone calls and a registered letter, neither he nor his staff answered our letter or returned a phone call. During the treatment, only one time after tens of calls did Dr. Erwin actually call back to discuss our sons plan (and assured us that rubber bands would be used “soon”). I would certainly not recommend this practice or Orthodontist to anyone who is not local. Those from out of town get the brush off, in my experience. I am following up with a Better Business Bureau complaint and considering small claims court.

My son transferred to Dr. Erwin from NC, while attending school in the area, and already had orthodontics/braces. No rubber bands were ever applied (standard treatment per the other orthodontists we have had with other child and friends), this despite my wife's continued calls to suggest it. We asked multiple times for a call from Dr. Erwin regarding treatment and it was never returned. Once we sent a letter outlining our issue and stating that the next letter would be certified mail in order to track for legal reasons, we did receive a call. During that call, Dr. Erwin promised that after future appointments he would call us (since we are not in the state) and relay what was happening in our son's treatment. This never occurred. We paid over $150 a month to complete a treatment plan, quoted to be complete this October, yet when our son was checked at home this month, our orthodontist said virtually no progress had been made (he was amazed that no rubber bands had ever been applied). We are now looking at 6-8 months of further treatment after the results should have been complete.
Contacting someone in the office is difficult, at best. There was a voice mail that was usually full. When staff was available, they usually needed to ask someone else the answer, and that person was usually busy. There were not return phone calls.
If you are not physically located in this immediate area, I highly recommend you do not try to do business with this office.
I will update if my letter and complaint with the BBB has any effect or if all our money was for nothing.
